The Try-It! classes are just what they seem: an opportunity to have a go at a new skill or technique.
During November, we will be learning the art of Sashiko.
Sashiko is a hand-sewing technique that originated in ancient Japan. In Japanese, its name means “little stabs”—a reference to the plain running stitch that makes up sashiko’s geometric, all-over patterns.
Like many ancient textile traditions, its exact origins are lost to time. Sashiko probably developed some time during the Edo period (1615–1868). By the Meiji era (1868–1912), sashiko was a well-established technique.
The technique was used to extend the life of worn fabrics, mend, and winterize clothing, and embellish everyday items.
There are 3 different sessions available to book. Each session will be similar, but you are welcome to come to more than one if you want to develop your skills further.
All materials are provided.
If you would like to attend, but none of the times are convenient, please contact me, and we can organise another session.
